On Saturday 4/18/09 a group of over 100 probate investor fanatics filled the room at the Sheraton LAX to listen to my “53 Ways and Plays to Probate Profits” talk. I’m grateful for all those that attended and hope that everyone got lots of wonderful, twisted profit ideas.
I learned a lot from this event. I received lots of constructive feedback on my manual, the visuals, etc. and I really appreciate that. We spent time going over probate basics, documents, court system, files, and then got into the good stuff, like no-interest seller financing, etc. Here’s the basic format sections:
Intro to Probate; Finding Deals, Making Offers; 53 Ways & Plays; Issues & Opportunities; and the Panel of Experts (including Mike Cantu, Kristine Poe and Travis Farnsworth). I think that this was the best part of the program and we ran over due to the endless great questions.
As happens sometimes, there was too much information that I wanted to share, than one-day will permit.
Will I do this again? Absolutely! Would I do anything differently? Sure. I could make a laundry list of changes, but the major change is that I would break probate training down into several separate seminars; probably a four-hour introduction seminar, so that people can get comfortable with the process; and then several other advanced seminars, to be offered only to people who have taken or studied the introduction.
I think the 53 Ways and Plays ought to be a stand-alone program, however I was advised to review probate for people in attendance who hadn’t a clue about probate. Candidly, I sensed that we had really two group types of people in attendance – no experience, and experienced. It was awkward for me because the new folks held me back from discussing the best stuff. So, the best way to deal with that in the future is to only offer the advanced topics to people who I know have taken my training or bought my “Insider’s Guide” book, so we don’t get bogged down with basics.
In all, I think everyone had a great time and learned a lot. Personally, I had a blast and hope that the audience saw how much I was enjoying sharing my experiences and passing on the best ways to profit from this often-misunderstood area of real estate investing.
